What Makes the Market on Military Special?

About a year ago, I visited the Winter Market on Military for the first time. Over the past year, I have become friends with several vendors who have graciously supported Rooted In by donating products for cooking demonstrations and local recipe development.
This bustling market has a huge variety of locally made goods. Everything from seasonal vegetables and fruit, bakery, meat, eggs, preserved foods, jams/jellies/sauces, beverages, crafts and jewelry. Oh and did I mention it’s indoors, located in the Green Bay Plaza at the corner of Military and West Mason (in two buildings, on either side of Skechers).
According to Leah Weycker, Director of the Military Avenue Business District, the market started outside about 7 years ago and from there the idea to host an indoor market came about 5 years ago as a way to connect our community to local growers and makers.
As I have gotten to know the vendors, it’s obvious why the Market on Military is special. This market is personal and has purpose. It fosters relationships in our community and encourages the use of local ingredients. People are passionate, emotionally invested and help each other succeed. It is beautiful to hear their stories and of course, buy amazing products to support local food.
Remaining dates for the indoor market are:
9AM to 1PM
- February 3,17
- March 2,16,30
- April 6, 20
