Cheesy Zucchini Chive Bread with Garlic Butter

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon table salt
  • 1 cup local buttermilk
  • 1 local egg
  • ¼ cup local butter melted, such as Old World Creamery
  • 1 ½ cups shredded local sharp cheddar cheese such as Ron’s Cheese
  • 3 tablespoon minced local chives- fresh or dried
  • 1 ½ cups shredded local zucchini squeezed of excess moisture (about 1 medium)

Garlic Butter

  • 1 stick ½ cup local butter, softened
  • 2 local garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice



  • Preheat oven to 350­­°F. Coat a 9 x 5-inch bread pan with cooking spray and set aside.
  • Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt together in a bowl until well combined.
  • Whisk buttermilk, egg and butter in another bowl until well combined.
  • Gently stir flour mixture into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan, smoothing top.
  • Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove from oven to a cooling rack. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan and allowing to cool completely on rack. Serve with garlic butter.


  • Mix butter, garlic and lemon juice in a bowl until well combined.
  • Serve spread on the bread.
